NEWS ON CONGO 001: Aggression protested in Stockholm [Posted: 28.08.98] Today, some 60 people, mainly Congolese living in Sweden, demon- strated in front of the US and French embassies in the country's capital, Stockholm, to protest against the ongoing aggression by Rwanda and Uganda, supported by the US and France, against the Democratic Republic of Congo. The demonstration was organized by the Congo National Associa- tion in Sweden. (Contact address, see below.) Protest statements in English and French were handed over to the embassies. (See posting NEWS 002.) The demonstrators carried streamers reading: "We shall defend our country by all means possible!" "The integrity of DR Congo will not be touched!" "The whole people is united behind President Kabila in defence of the whole country!" "Co-operation, not colonization!" "Against imperialism!" "U.S. = U.N.?" "We want peace, peace, peace!" "Long live Lumumba!" Leaflets in Swedish and in English, published by the DR Congo Committee in Sweden (contact address, see below) and calling on Sweden to counteract the aggression, were distributed by the demonstrators. (For leaflet text in English, see 26.08 posting from this address.) It was reported here that a similar demonstration was held today in Brussels, Belgium. ________________________________________________________________ "NEWS ON CONGO" postings bring statements by the Congo National Association in Sweden and the DR Congo Committee in Sweden and also reproduce information and analysis from other sources.
