How Crocker DSL Works

DSL makes use of the fact that normal telephone conversations do not use all of the
available capacity of the telephone line.

With DSL you can leave your Internet connection open and still use phone lines for voice calls. DSL takes the unused portion of your copper telephone line bandwidth and sends and receives your digital Internet traffic over it.

It should be noted that several factors affect DSL service. If you are too far from the telephone company’s equipment (over 18,000 feet), DSL cannot be provisioned. And distances less than 18,000 feet may be limited in their connectivity. Also, if the connection to the telephone company includes fiber optic lines, you cannot use DSL (though you may still be able to achieve high-speed connectivity with a different Crocker Service).

By comparision, an Internet cable connection is shared and your connection speeds can go down as more subscribers are added on your connection. DSL outperforms cable by providing a single direct connection between your office and the Internet, guaranteeing the same connection speed regardless of how many other DSL users there are in your area.
