NEWS ON CONGO 002: Statement by Congolese in Sweden [Posted: 28.08.98] In connection with the demonstration today Friday in front of the embassies of the US and France in Stockholm, Sweden (see posting NEWS 001), the following statement was handed over: PROTEST AGAINST THE ATTACK OF FOREIGN COUNTRIES ON THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO BY UGANDA, RWANDA AND THEIR ALLIES His Excellency US ambassador in Sweden His Excellency French ambassador in Sweden Your excellency, The Congolese population who has suffered under 32 years of Mo- butu's dictatorship with French and US support, once more is facing hard times through unprovoked aggression from Rwanda and Uganda with the support of the US and France. We Congolese living in Sweden are joining our voices to those of the Congolese population in the DRC and wherever they may be in the world to *express our support for* the Congolese govern- ment under the leadership of President Kabila in its efforts at getting rid of those Ugandan and Rwandan troops in our country. *We agree with the position of the Congolese government that "Congo is an independent country. Its integrity and its terri- torial borders are not negotiable".* The Congolese population have shown that they are united against aggression and domination. We call on other Congolese wherever they may be to show their patriotism to their country at this crucial moment to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Congo even to the last drop of their blood. The Congo Republic has for a long time been the battle field for imperialist plunder and intrigue. We want to be left in peace, so that we like any other nation may prosper. We condemn this barbaric aggression and demand for the USA and France to stop immediately their support to the war activities of Uganda and Rwanda which have already caused many casualties both among soldiers and among civilians. We call on all those who support war activities to stop their support to war-loving Museveni and Kagame at once. Long live the Democratic Republic of Congo!
