NEWS ON CONGO 008: Aggression protested in Denmark [First posted: 12.09.98] Yesterday, Friday 11 September, some 50 people, most of them Congolese living in Denmark, demonstrated in Copenhagen against the ongoing aggression against the DR Congo. The demonstrators gathered in front of the Danish parliament building at Chris- tiansborg and then marched to the French and US embassies where protest speeches were delivered. (See "NEWS 009".) The demonstration was organized by the Unity Committee Against the Crimes in the Congo. It was supported by the DR Congo Com- mittee in Sweden, some representatives and adherents of which joined in from nearby Malmoe and Lund across the Oeresund. (Respective contact addresses, see below.) The demonstrators carried streamers and placards in Danish and in English reading (in part in translation): "WEAPONS WHICH COME FROM THE SKY - STOP THE OUTRAGES!" "DARE CHILDREN BE BORN IN TODAY'S CONGO?" "STOP THE MURDERING OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN!" "STOP THE TERROR AGAINST INNOCENT PEOPLE!" "AGGRESSORS OUT OF DR CONGO!" "CO-OPERATION, NOT COLONIZATION!" "SUPPORT CONGO AGAINST THE INVASION!" "RWANDAN AND UGANDAN TROOPS OUT!" "KINSHASA, HIT BY WAR, NEEDS AID". Leaflets in Danish and English originating from the supporting DR Congo Committee in Sweden were distributed. (Text in both languages, see "NEWS 010".) After the demonstration, many of us who had taken part gathered at the Afrikansk Kultur-Center in Copenhagen, discussing events in the DR Congo and strengthening our unity and co-operation.
